How things have been so far: when price sensitivity is an issue, it can become difficult to separate out different machines from different vendors. Some things like durability can be hard to assess and yet become all the difference between throwing money away or not. But other things like machine specs become immediately telling if... IF... there is a good understanding and honesty about what kind of tasks are sensible given certain specs. The honesty part is actually not about the machine but about what you will do with it. This product, specified as advertised, has been one that makes ordinary work pleasurable, and that is the best way to put it. It is capable of heavy duty but not at speed. And it is not demanding on the maintenance front, but it is not a road warrior. It's good to go in the backpack between home and school, but doesn't expect to be lugged around for other reasons. The best thing about it, again, is that it makes ordinary work pleasurable, and likewise let's throw in "ordinary" passive entertainment when it is on a higher-bandwidth feed. The look, feel and sound makes it fun to go do things that you usually do. Don't overshoot; let yourself be surprised, and enjoy dollars well spent. If you're intent on heavy workloads, being a gamer, or trying to run your office and your home life simultaneously on one box, spend more money on stronger specs.

Do not buy this. The price might be inviting but, you get what you pay for. The touchpad is awful. The keyboard in rather unresponsive. I keep having to go back and type things over and over due to the poor keyboard. RAM usage will all of the sudden spike making the computer unusable until you do a complete shutdown. I have loved my Toshibas in the past but, this model is junk.

I had a laptop years ago and I hated it...gave it away. But with the big screen and big keyboard it's easy to type and easy to see.
Of course, I am also having to learn Windows 8 at the same time so it's making it much easier to learn to use both at the same time.
