This is a solid purchase for the individual on a budget. It shipped within a few hours after my purchase which was a plus, and got it the next day. The first thing I noticed is that it was bigger than what I thought it was going to be and felt extremely durable. The display is also vibrant but lacking only a little bit compared to a more expensive laptop, which won't disappoint you at all. The sound however, is not to good at all, it's tolerable but you will feel short ended when you play music or watch videos. Also the surface (Black Trax) of the laptop is the same as the cursor pad as well as the click buttons which is a feature I can over look but some people will find it annoying when navigating. I would recommend this laptop for the price and it is a quality product. Windows 8 takes some time to get use too because of the apps but it's a cool experience.

I'm a college student so I just needed a laptop that I could get my HUGE workload done on. This was the ticket. At an amazing price I couldn't pass it up. Yeah that sound is not that great and the camera is a little fuzzy , but then again, that's not what I bought it for. So far I like windows 8. I'm still learning to navigate it but I'm sure with time it will be just fine. The shipping of the product was very very fast so no complaints there.

Bought it for the low price, and because it seemed to fulfill my simple needs of something I can write papers on while surfing the web and listening to music. Within three weeks, I started getting an error message that made it impossible to do any work and now I have to call tech to figure out how to fix it.
Also the speakers are TERRIBLE and the touch pad isn't incredibly responsive. Comes pre-loaded with a ton of crap. Wish I had gone with the Asus.

TOSHIBA L75D-A7283 17.3 Deals

This review is from: TOSHIBA L75D-A7283 17.3" AMD Quad-Core A4-5000M Accelerated Processor 1.5GHz 6gb 750gb Entertainment Laptop (Personal Computers)
I was trying to buy a laptop to my sun. I ended up in the store and I bought this Toshiba without knowing anything. I was inclined to buy a HP laptop, but the difference of 40 bucks, I ended buy the toshiba. I got a 17.6"screen, instead of a 15'', a quad core 1.5MHz, instead of a pentium dual core, 6 GB of RAM, instead of 4GB, a 6 cell battery, instead of a 4 cell battery.
After opening the box, it was very nice, big screen, sturdy PC.
Keyboard with keypad for numbers, flat, with a space between the keys.
It has a HDMI out put and 2 3.0 USB, plus the usual stuff.
When I switched on, it reminded my iMac. I had to fill it up name, address, network, and after a while, I was facing the Windows 8 for the first time. It was not very friendly, but the whole thing is a front screen. If you get the desktop version and do the right click button, you will get familiar with the OS.
What was nice it the possibility to uninstall the bunch of things that come with, very easy.
then it was the moment to install the wi-fi printer. As you may know, printer are not made to print, but this time, it was installed before I noticed.
I deleted the Internet Explorer web browser, and installed Google Chrome. easy, great!
So far, it was a good experience, hope it will not freeze.
The only cons so far is the touch screen, that it does not have, but I did not buy with it, and honestly...we are the generation where touching the screen was a sin.

Bought this laptop to replace my desktop. Wanted the larger screen, and I am very pleased with it. In fact, I have added an external monitor so I can have 2 workspaces on the same laptop.
It came with no manual and Windows 8. After trying hard for several days, I realized that my expectations were correct - Windows 8 is not for me. As a computer professional (30 years in the industry), I am very skilled with software - but not W8. It is very unfriendly to the user.
So I loaded Windows 7 on the system and have been extremely pleased with it. Aside from some software drivers, the move was painless. The driver downloads from Toshiba are only for W8, so I had to search. Found the perfect driver collection on ... the Lenovo support site, of all places (file name hsd607ww).
Would definitely buy another!

This is my 3rd Toshiba Satelite (never paid more than $450) and they last about 4-5 years of daily use before keys wear and system performance gets sluggish, but a real workhorse laptop for nearly the bottom of the barrel pricing. The Quad-core processor and 6G RAM was worth the extra $60 dollars over the lowest base model. It zips along pretty good and is supposedly a game rated laptop although I'm not a gamer. The only complaint I have is the touchpad has a few too many bells and whistles I have yet to figure out - be careful where you let your fingers wander! I use an external mouse so that's not big a deal most of the time. Also still trying to figure out Win 8 but that's not Toshiba's fault. I just hit the App key and click on the Desktop tile to get back to the land of familiarity.

I love this Toshiba Satellite computer. This is the second Toshiba Satellite I have owned in the past five years. I've had this computer now for over two weeks now and I getting settled in to windows 8 just fine with no issues. If you have use a Amazon Kindle or an iPad you will be able to adjust to Windows 8 with little issues using the computers touchscreen. I highly suggest a touch screen with Windows 8 as it was designed for it and it makes it very easy to use and navigate. I play downloadable games apps with no issues that use the touch screen for the controls. The one issue I have is I'm not used to the smaller keyboard with the number pad as I constantly hit the wrong keys when I type but I will get used to it. Other then that, For a cheap low end computer with a Intel Core i3 2.3 GHz, touch screen and Windows 8 I'm very pleased and I'm very glad I did not go with a cheaper non touchscreen computer as I had, I would have been very disappointed.

I got the laptop as I'm doing my degree online and it's very good so far...After reading the negative reviews about windows 8 i was a bit skeptical but I must say the touch screen has made it very manageable. The only hang up I had was the lack of a start button, which anyone would find weird since start buttons have alwayssssss been present. However, i just downloaded a start button and all is well.
Overall Great Purchase.

For the price, this laptop is more than decent if you are like me who bought this to surf the web, use Office suites and for some other light uses.
Pros:
1. Nice screen size for streaming video
2. Touchscreen is very responsive even with a screen protector
3. Good value
Cons: (more like nitpicking)
1. This came with a 10-key on the right. Because of this, the keyboard is not centered. You need to get used to it.
2. 15.6" (bigger screen size) means more weight. This won't be a good companion for your trip, especially air travel.
3. You may want to buy a screen protector if you don't like seeing finger prints all over the screen. The local retailers (e.g. BestBuy, Walmart, etc) don't carry protectors of this size and only way to buy is through internet.
4. Steep learning curve with Windows 8.
Some reviews are negative on the audio quality of the laptop. Once again, if you are casual video streamer, this laptop offers good enough audio. Maybe I was just lucky?

First off the Toshiba Ultrabook that this was purchased for really is great but it is so light that I felt that some additonal security was a good think. Found this cover and said let's give it a go, I'm so glad I did. This case fits like a glove, snaps into place and has no play to make it feel loose. The color looks good and doesn't show fingerprints like one would think for a clear cover. The weight adds about a half a pound to the 2.5 pound 13 inch Portege but it's still feels lighter than my old Lenovo S10-3 and the screen is soooo much better. If you have this computer and take it around the house or around the world get this case you will thank me for the security.

Toshiba Satellite L45T-A4230NR 14-Inch Deals

This review is from: Toshiba Satellite L45T-A4230NR 14-Inch Touchscreen Laptop (Mercury Silver in Fusion Horizon) (Personal Computers)
Let me begin by saying that I have only owned Toshiba laptops and I have gone through three of them - and they lasted a long time, were durable, etc.. So, I got this laptop expecting the same level of quality. I was looking for a good priced touchscreen and thought I had found it - I loved the price, the size, the look (sleek), and everything worked well except the wireless. It kept dropping me off my wireless network at home and at work/school randomly. To the point where I couldnt take it anymore. I had a hard time installing my wireless printer as well (and thought that this may have been the cause of the problem - i read online that some wireless HP printers are just no compatible with some laptops). The other issue I had was that it would randomly highlight everything on the page (and this was not b/c of the lock feature on the keypad either). So it had to go. Nevertheless, Amazon was great about the return, I received a replacement within two days and returned the faulty one. Since I thought it was just a bad one of the bunch i replaced it with the same computer. It had the same issues - only on this one, the wireless dropped and the mousepad highlight 'everything' on the page more frequently. The mousepad also looked like it just wasnt built well. It was built slanted and so it was noticeably perpetually 'depressed'. So I returned it and went to buy something at a nearby store (and I typically get everything from Amazon so going to the store was also a sacrifice) - another Toshiba - and I spent more money on it - over $200 more- the semester was moving along and I couldnt afford to be without a laptop for long and needed to download programs. I got another laptop - so far so good, it is larger, but other then that the wireless signal seems to be weaker in some spots then other smaller laptops in the same vicinity and on the same wireless network (lenova, Asus, Imac)...I gave it two point because I liked everything else about this laptop - I just wished it worked like it should have.

Besides what I mentioned in the subject, I was also bothered by the fact that a diamond lattice pattern is clearly visible on the screen with any source of glare. I don't have that issue with any other touchscreen device I have made in this decade.
Not being able to tilt the screen back that far really bothered me as well, especially due to the fact the screen glare is so bad on this laptop.
I did find the CPU and the integrated Intel HD 4000 GPU to be very good however.
I don't think I would recommend this laptop due to the screen glare and inability to tilt back far. It also lacks Bluetooth, which is bad.

I like the touch screen.
I recommend the product to young people who like new possibiltiies.
I don't like it that one cannot show the opening menú.
This is my wife's computer. She loves the touch screen, although there is some getting used to a new operating system.

This review is from: Toshiba Satellite S55-A5256NR 15.6-Inch Laptop (Ice Blue in Brushed Aluminum) (Personal Computers)
I bought this laptop recently to replace a 6 year old HP. I didn't have high expectations after reading about the difficulties of Windows 8 and problems with other laptops.
The negative: This Toshiba does not come equipped with a removable battery. I found it convenient to have extra batteries available with the old laptop. The battery life is okay with about 3 1/2 hours of simple computer use/internet browsing. However, the battery does drain when you simply close the screen (it dropped to 60% while closed for 24 hours).
The first time I tried to open the optical drive it didn't open. I had to use a paperclip to manually open it. Afterwards, it has opened automatically without any problems.
The positive: This laptop is fast. I'm not a gamer, so I can't say how it does with the latest games, but for everyday computing use it blows my old laptop out of the water. Webpages and software open quickly. The computer comes out of sleep mode almost instantly.
I was able to install my old software without a hitch. I am running Windows Office 2000 and QuickBooks 2003 without much difficulty. I run QB as an administrator to work at its best.
The backlit keyboard feature is useful and I like having the 10-key number pad. The touchpad is easy to use, even without the dedicated right/left buttons. There are two thin raised bars that help the fingers sense where to click for the respective buttons.
The Toshiba feels light, but sturdy.
There is little to no noise, much quieter than the old HP I used. The cooling fan seems to work efficiently as the area where my wrists rest while I type has stayed cool to the touch.
Overall, a good laptop for me. I would have rated it 5 stars had the battery been removable.

Toshiba Satellite Laptop Computer - 15.6 Deals

This review is from: Toshiba Satellite Laptop Computer - 15.6" LED Screen / Intel Core i7-3630QM Processor / 8GB Memory / 750GB Hard Drive / Windows 8 (Personal Computers)
Nice general-purpose laptop. Great for using around the house, office, dorm, and the occasional road trip - no bulky additional accessories needed.
- The keyboard - great feel, love it - even fat fingers can't miss the mark. Keys are readable, even in low light. The keyboard is not backlit - a fact, not a flaw. The primary purpose of the function keys (a space-hogging holdover from pre-Windows days) is as buttons for help, brightness, media controls, touchpad on/off, volume, wireless mode, and even switching between multiple monitors - no SHIFT, CTRL, or ALT required. Now, if they would only do that with the number pad, we non-accountants would get some practical use out of another large chunk of the keyboard. There is a caps-on light on the caps lock key, which is blocked by your hand if you are typing, but was omitted entirely on some other models I looked at. (If you are reading this, Toshiba person, move the light to the left corner of the caps lock key so it can be seen when hands are on the keyboard.)
- The speed - fast! As another reviewer noticed, the computer is faster than the DSL speed, so I try to be patient and not blame the machine - my IP is throttling and it is just easier to notice now. To get all the speed and memory, Windows 8 64-bit is installed, which is the future but not backward compatible with older software, so expect to spend some time visiting software and vendor sites for updates and replacements.
- The touchpad - basic but easy to use. The manual says the touchpad will scroll, but mine doesn't. (Yes, I checked for updated drivers!) The touchpad is placed left of center, below the standard keyboard, so it falls between your hands when typing. This placement eliminates accidentally brushing the touchpad with thumb or wrist when typing - a problem of previous laptop generations with a center-placement touchpad.
- The CD/DVD-RW drive - I'm just not ready to give that up. The little bit of extra laptop weight is less than having to carry an external drive (and looking dorky in public). A built-in drive also doesn't take up extra desk space or use a scarce USB port.

The sound - loud enough for a hearing-challenged person (me) to easily hear a few feet away. The built-in mic is loud and clear for phone calls.- The speed - fast! - The webcam - ok for occasional use, but you may want something better if you do a lot of online face time.
- Battery - lightweight, but not user replaceable, so it will be expensive to have replaced when it no longer holds a charge. Personally, I like the resulting lighter weight and am gambling that the battery will last until I need a different configuration and then use this laptop with the power cord as a backup at home or office. Full battery charge is enough to watch a couple of full-length movies or half a season of your favorite TV series, but for continuous all day use, you will need the power cord for a recharge. It does recharge fast, though. You can extend the battery-only usage by putting the laptop in sleep mode when you are distracted or away - the laptop pops immediately out of sleep at the touch of the power button (my favorite feature). I tried the `battery power-saving' feature to extend the battery charge, but it made the screen so drab and dreary that it wasn't worth the resulting mental depression to gain a few extra minutes between charges. When attaching some external peripherals, the laptop is under-powered on battery power alone, so you will need the laptop power cord and/or separate device power when attaching some devices, including speakers. A mouse or flash drive is no problem, though.
